Unlike the Customer Service Department which we presented to our readers on our blog last month (7 Adorable and Dedicated Angels Behind The Scene), this department only consists of 1 person. Yeah… make no mistake, there is only one person! But that certainly doesn’t make this department any less significant than other departments in Exabytes!

This long haired lass with an accountant look sits on the second floor of our office. Speaking of her nature of work, she is even more behind the scene than our ’7 Dedicated Angels’ in Customer Service Department for she doesn’t interact with any customer at all! Yet, she controls Exabytes’ financial pulse, monitors the company’s spending, and even gives the CEO her opinions and advice on all money related matters! Not only that, every single PO and single cent spent every day has no chance of escaping from her mighty eyes.

Yeah! Introducing our Finance Manager, Miss Siew Hoon. Ever since she joined the company, she has introduced several financial systems and plans which benefited the company greatly.

Siew Hoon, our Finance Manager

Siew Hoon, our Finance Manager is also a frequent visitor and keen shopper of Queensbay Mall, Penang. Ask her the location of any shop in this massive shopping mall and she could tell you in no time as she knows them like the back of her hand. Frequency of visits: 7 times a week! But you could be terribly wrong if you think she is an extravagant shopper, for all she does in the mall was long hour window shopping! It’s never an easy task to convince her to part with her cash. And because of her thriftiness and perfect discipline with money, all of us at Exabytes have trust and faith in her for managing and spending our money wisely.

At work, she is very sensitive to numbers and possesses an analytic mind. She places accountability as the most important attribute in her profession.

Last but not least, (someone has divulged this information to us) despite the sedentary nature of her job and her habit of eating around the clock, she never gets fat. Man! This is already making a lot of us jealous.

2010 marks the 9th year of Exabytes since it was founded back then in 2001 by our CEO Chan Kee Siak. Nine years after the inception, we are still strong and solid as ever, thanks to all the fantastic support given to us by our customers!

Today, Exabytes consists of 52 members of staff and 7 departments. As our loyal customers, have you ever wondered who are behind the scene all these years, giving you various support 24*7 via email and phone?

With much anticipation and surprises, we want to dissect the Exabytes you know in front of you and give you a full introduction as to who and who are behind the scene of Exabytes.

Well, since there are quite a number of departments in the company, this month, allow us to start with…..

There is one special department at Exabytes, in which the staff spend half of their time puffing their noses and eating junk food and other sweet sweet confectionary. And when they are having their daily favorite feast or discussing fashion or beauty or something unrelated to work in the office (luckily outside office hours), no Martians dare to step into their territory as their place exudes too much of feminism vibe which would simply expel a Martian without much effort.

This department consists of 7 fine ladies (or Venusians), and NO single Martian. And in this small tiny version of the planet Venus in our Solar System, lives an ‘iron lady’ who would fight for food, protect her citizens (although there are only 6 citizens on this planet Venus), and step forward if she detects threats or invasions of any kind. Yeah… she is no other than the HEAD of CUSTOMER SERVICE DEPARTMENT, Miss Annie Ong!

Annie Ong, the chief of the Customer Service Department or more precisely known as the Customer Service Manager.

No one on this planet dares to ask her to ‘mind her own business’, as her major duty is to ‘mind everybody’s businesses’ in the Customer Service Department. Her duty as a Customer Service Manager includes overseeing the operation of the whole department, checking if all the tasks assigned to her fellow Venusians are completed on time and bringing food to reward them when overtime work is needed.

Second down the throne is the most senior (bear in mind though that being the most senior doesn’t mean the eldest) one in our Customer Service Department, Miss Tan Chia Ying. A very adventurous lady indeed, she has conquered the great Mount Kota Kinabalu in Sabah and was voted the Employee of the Month just a month ago. However, don’t be misled by her adventurous personality as in her personal life (and sometimes at work), her hobby is to imitate the expressions of various emoticons!

Miss Tan Chia Ying

The next person in Cust, is the one who is indeed feared by many. Introducing Jessica Sim (or more fondly known as Caca Sim), one of the main person in the Billing Department of Cust. Being the most petite Venusian in Cust, her MOTTO of Good Customer Service is always be a good listener to your customers even when they are angry! She is also an extremely responsible person deemed by many.

Jessica Sim

Next is the most caring person in our Customer Service Department, Miss Sharon. According to her fellow colleagues, her flair for paying attention to detail has put many in awe! Tasks assigned to her will always be completed with meticulous attention to detail. Her MOTTO of Good Customer Service is always put yourselves in customers’ shoes, comprehend their feelings and looking at everything from customers’ standpoints.

Miss Sharon

Up next is our ‘Nescafe Queen’ Sau Hun. Being the youngest in the department, she possesses the ‘loudest laughter’ and her laughter is best known for its ability of reaching every corner in the office. According to her colleagues, she is a very efficient and confident person. She believes that in order to give the best services to the customers, one must be very confident in his/her approach.

Our ‘Nescafe Queen’ Sau Hun is second from left

Hooi Meng is no doubt the tallest person in Cust, but we urge you not to be fooled by her innocent and docile look. Another main person in Billing Department, she is best known for making more than 100 phone calls in a day to remind the customers about their payment. According to reliable sources, her appetite is bigger than some of the guys and she is always munching on carbohydrates, and yet, she is the slimmest person in the department or maybe the whole company. Looking docile but rather forceful in her approach, she is best known for her never-give-up attitude at work.

Miss Hooi Meng

Last but not least, is the most junior person in the department, Miss Rachel. Besides her sweet and amiable look, she is an avid singer (likes to sing both during shower and at work). Famous for her ‘laugh before talk’ style in interacting with friends, it is quite tedious talking/listening to her as she would either laugh by herself before telling you something, or laugh before you finish telling her your jokes. Her signature line in conversation goes like this: Hey…. you know…. hehehehe…. let me tell you something…. hehehe…. (luckily this doesn’t happen when she works) Work wise, she is very patient in dealing with customers and she is also a very inquisitive person.

This coming 1 July 2010, Verisign will increase registry fee for Top-Level domain names by 7% for .com and by 10% for .net domain names. This is indeed a shocking news to the Internet world as it might affect everyone including Exabytes. Due to this fee increase, it might also affect us in giving our customers special promotion prices for .com and .net domains.

Previously in 2008, there was a 7% increase in the registry fee of .com domains and 10% in .net domains. However, Exabytes still continued to provide the same price for these two domain extensions.

Today in 2010, even though Verisign has increased the registry fee again for .com and .net domains for another 7% and 10%, our domain normal price and the renewal fees paid by our existing customers will still NOT be increased.

To all customers, if you own free hosting accounts or free blogs and do not have a domain name, NOW is the right time for you to get one as we are currently having a special promotion for TLDs (Top-Level Domain Names)!!!

For those who already owned a domain, however if you feel the need to get another one or several to start your new websites or online business, I would suggest that you get them now in this month. Also to anyone out there who would like to own their domain names with different extension domain names for example spaxez.com, spaxez.net, spaxes.info; it is HIGH TIME for you to GRAB ONE NOW.

Exabytes would also like to take this opportunity to present a special offer to those who are interested to transfer their domains to Exabytes. GREAT DISCOUNTS and special goodies await you as we are currently running a special DOMAIN TRANSFER PROMOTION!!! Contact our salespersons NOW to find out more!

Check out every Exabytes website, we do have different domain promotions going on for different products and services. Please ACT FAST AND GRAB ONE NOW before our promotion ends 30 June 2010!

“Innovation is not limited to products. You may have a commoditized product, but you can have innovation in terms of marketing, packaging and customer experience.” Chan Kee Siak, CEO of Exabytes was quoted as saying when he was interviewed by TheEdge, one of the most notable business magazines in Malaysia a couple of months ago.

Started as a part-time reseller named hostkaki.com, the then 19-year-old Chan was a student of Business Information Systems at the Penang branch of Tunku Abdul Rahman College. Juggling a part-time business with studies was tough, especially the time when the business of hostkaki.com began to take off. “At first I skipped lectures and later on, I skipped tutorials. In the end, I even had to skip exams due to the overwhelming response from my clients.”

The decision he had to make was clear: either quit the business or quit his studies. He decided to quit his studies after one year. “I decided to give myself one year to fully concentrate on the business. I managed to convince my parents that if the business failed, I would go back to college.”

Ever since Exabytes became a web-hosting provider from a hosting reseller, the company has been self-funded from its operations. “We managed to break even in the first year of business,” said Chan, attributing his success to plenty of hard work and perseverance.

According to him, there is nothing special about web-hosting and there are many web-hosting providers locally and around the world. “What’s different is marketing and packaging of the product, as well as the way clients are treated. We don’t have salespeople who do door-to-door sales; we don’t meet our customers at their office. All sales are done over the Internet. And this has helped us reduce cost and enable us to pass the saving back to our customers.”

Indeed, Exabytes prides itself on its customer service and support. While most web-hosting providers have more salespeople than support personnel, 3 out of 5 Exabytes employees are in customer service and support team, which provides round-the-clock technical assistance through Helpdesk.

Talking about the quality of the product, Chan stressed that the reliability of Exabytes’ servers is something that cannot be compromised. While the industry’s server average uptime is 99.5%, average uptime for websites hosted by Exabytes is 99.9%. “We are very careful in selecting our suppliers, such as server hardware suppliers and Internet bandwidth suppliers. We also have a team of dedicated server engineers who understand servers and customers’ needs,” says Chan.

Exabytes, which obtained MSC status in 2005, also runs regular preventive maintenance and maintain backups to ensure a high level of server availability. Almost half its hard drive storage capacity is used for the backups.

In 2009, Exabytes was ranked No 370 in the Deloitte Technology Fast500 Asia Pacific Ranking. “Our growth is due to our strong customer base of 32,000, many of whom are SMEs. Our clients in Malaysia include Bonia, Carlsberg, Celebrity Fitness and Lim Kok Wing University. Read more.

Currently having 9000 international clients, Exabytes plans to acquire more overseas clients this year, while increasing its market share in Malaysia. “Our goal is that every business in Malaysia should own a website,” said the visionary CEO/founder of Exabytes.
